Rainy Day Activities for Dogs

Rain rain go away, come again another day. Is your dog tired of being cooped up all day while it rains? Some dogs love to splash in the rain, but others take one look and turn around and run right back inside. It can be hard to find ways to keep your pup entertained and happy when they can’t go outside because it’s raining. We have compiled a list of activities you can try with your dog next time it rains.

Practice nose work
You can hide snacks around the house for your furry friend to sniff out. This is a great way to also keep the kiddos entertained as well. Have your kids find creative places to hide your pups favorite toys and snacks (or themselves) and watch as your dog sniffs them out!

To ensure your pets safety, watch out for these common Easter items:

Check out a dog friendly store in your area
Don’t feel like you have to be stuck at home when it’s raining. Take your dog to explore your local dog friendly restaurants, boutiques and shopping centers.

Chase bubbles
I’m convinced all dogs love bubbles. At least enough to entertain them for quite some time while you are stuck indoors. They even make dog bubbles that come in fun scents and flavors like peanut butter and bacon! Bubble day is always a huge hit at daycare, try it at home with your pup as well.

Puzzle toys
Puzzle toys are a great way to cure boredom. They are mentally and physically stimulating for your pup. If you aren’t sure if your dog will like a puzzle toy, you can start with a muffin tin and cover the treats with tennis balls!

Play tug-of-war or fetch
Pick your pups favorite game or toy. They will have a great time just playing games with their favorite humans!

Agility Training
Get creative and build an obstacle course with cardboard boxes, hula hoops, pillows, or chairs. Anything they can jump over, weave, or climb!

Teach them a new trick
Rainy days are the perfect opportunity for teaching your ol’ dog new tricks or brushing up on basic commands.

Go outside rain or shine!
Some dogs are born to be wild (and wet, and smelly). Embrace the rain and go on outside to play! Leave a towel by the door to clean up a little before zooming back inside.

Bring your dog to Daycare!
Last but certainly not least. We think this is the BEST thing you can do for your dog any day of the week. But even when it’s raining outside, daycare is still a safe and fun place for your dog to run around with friends and expel any extra energy! If your dog is a social butterfly they will love romping around the yard with their BFF’s.

We hope to see you and your doggos at Vera’s very soon! Rain or shine 🙂
